A GUIDE TO ONLINE SHOPPING

A GUIDE TO ONLINE SHOPPING

I must admit I was a late bloomer when it came to online shopping — what if it doesn’t fit, what if I hate it, can I trust the store with my credit card details? These were valid concerns but with a little research on the store website they were easily addressed.

I have had fantastic success with online shopping and am now an advocate.Seriously, sitting down on a Sunday evening with a glass of wine in hand, and my PJs on with Frank (my beloved Burmese) on my lap shopping up a storm is my idea of bliss! You know the saying “no makeup, no pants, no problem” - that’s me!

So how did I get to be something of a seasoned professional? I took the plunge and have never looked back. Below is a list of my tips for success to shop online with confidence:

  • First things first, check the return policy for the site you are shopping on. If you can’t return it for free I would avoid shopping there (or if you have to pay a little postage you may want to risk it), but make sure you are clear on how long you have to return the unwanted item
  • If you’re not sure what size to order, either use the “contact” form to ask the e-tailer about sizing or if you can, order two sizes and return the one that isn’t the right fit. Sizes vary hugely so don’t worry about what the label says, just ensure it fits well
  • Read any product descriptions, check all of the images provided, and read other customer reviews if there are any. You may want to consider fabric and care instructions here as well
  • If you’re ordering from an international site you may have to pay duty & GST which can add significant cost to your purchase (as I discovered when I bought my Valentino shoes!)
  • Lastly, don’t be discouraged. If something arrives and it’s not as expected, just return it and try again.

Right, well I’m off to pour a wine and pop my PJs on - time for some shopping. Now where’s Frank?
